Irish English: What is a gossoon?

gossoon

Irish  a boy [C17: from Old French gararçon]

An evocative word originally meaning servant boy. Often used to describe character as was well as sex. Better to be a fine gossoon than latchico (literally half-a-hat, a rogue.)
